Kalathas is a famous, quiet village with a sandy beach lined by pine trees and a lovely islet in front of it, about 10 km north-east of the town of Chania. Two small beach restaurants lie on the sandy beach. Tersanas beach (1.5 km northwest) is another fine sandy beach with a canteen to visit for a few hours.
Another fine, sandy beach can be found in Stavros (6 km north) where, apart from the soft sand and the clear waters. Kounoupidiana town, with two super markets, banks, shops, bakery shop and mini markets is only a 5-minute drive from Kalathas.
Chorafakia village is located 1 km from Kalathas. It is a small village in the middle of the distance between Kalathas and Tersanas, offering a taverna and mini-market.
Kalathas is situated 15 minutes far from the international airport of Chania and half an hour from the port of Souda. There is frequent (six times per day) transportation connection with the centre of Chania. Sometimes the sandy beach may be crowded but even like that it is a fine place to visit for a few hours.
